Vigil and Socarras Earn KCAC Baseball Weekly Honors

KANSAS — Matthew Vigil of McPherson College and Bernie Socarras of Friends University have earned the KCAC Baseball Pitcher and Player of the Week honors, respectively, the conference office announced Monday. The two student-athletes were selected for their performances from March 9-15 by a vote of conference sports information directors. All KCAC Player of the Week honors are presented by Athletic Solutions.
 
 

Pitcher of the Week

Matthew Vigil - McPherson College

Sr. | LHP | Lubbock, Texas

In two victories over the weekend, Vigil allowed no hits and no runs. In three total innings pitched, he delivered eight strikeouts and issued just one walk.

Player of the Week

Bernie Socarras - Friends University

Sr. | IF | Hobbs, N.M.

Socarras was nearly an impossible out at the plate this past week for the Friends University Falcons, batting .786 and getting on base at a .789 clip while slugging 1.286 over 14 at-bats. Socarras was 3-of-3 in the first two games of the week and then drove in six runs in the second game at (RV) Oklahoma Wesleyan University, highlighted by a go-ahead grand slam in the ninth that temporarily put the Falcons on top 16-14. He drove in 12 runs for the week and five of his 11 hits went for extra bases. Socarras is now leading the Falcons this season in batting average (.385), RBIs (26), slugging percentage (.560) and on base percentage (.508).
