Kansas Wesleyan No. 10, Ottawa RV in Latest NAIA Baseball Coaches' Poll

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Two teams from the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) were recognized in the latest edition of the NAIA Baseball Coaches' Poll, the national office announced Wednesday.

Kansas Wesleyan University received its highest ranking in program history, coming in at No. 10 in this newest poll. Ottawa University is now in the "Receiving Votes" category of the poll after being ranked No. 20 in the previous poll.

The next edition of the NAIA Baseball Coaches' Poll is scheduled to be released Wednesday, April 29.

Poll Methodology

  • The national poll is for publicity purposes only and does not influence the selection process for national championship consideration.
  • A panel of head coaches representing each conference and the Continental Athletic Conference (Independents) votes in the poll.
  • The Top 25 teams are selected using a points-based system:
    • 30 points for a 1st-place vote, 29 for 2nd, 28 for 3rd, and so on.
  • The highest and lowest rankings received by each team are discarded before final tallying.
  • Teams receiving only one point are not listed as “receiving votes.”

TOP 10 CAPSULES

1. Taylor (Ind.)

The Trojans have been ranked No. 1 in the NAIA baseball coaches poll for the second consecutive week, powered by one of the nation’s most productive offenses and strong overall balance. They lead the country in team batting average at .357 while also posting a .483 on-base percentage and .591 slugging percentage, along with 461 runs, 62 home runs, and 167 extra-base hits across 39 games. The pitching staff has paired that with a 3.34 ERA and a .228 opponent batting average, helping limit opponents to just 139 runs on the year. The Trojans enter their upcoming four-game series against Indiana Wesleyan, April 16-17, riding a 20-game win streak and holding a 16-1 home record.

2. Georgia Gwinnett

The Grizzlies are third in the nation in hits with 493 and lead the nation in strikeouts with 403, powered by a deep lineup that features multiple high-impact bats. Peyton Watts (.435, 44 RBIs, 1.234 OPS) and Payton Fort (.420, 50 RBIs, 7 home runs) headline the team's offense with strong production throughout. On the mound, the staff has been steady as well, led by Peyton Castellow (3.02 ERA, 67 strikeouts) and Gavin LeBlanc (2.20 ERA), with multiple arms helping keep opponents to a .228 batting average overall. The Grizzlies are coming off a loss to No. 21 Milligan (Tenn.) and will look to respond in their four-game series against Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) on April 17-18.

3. Bellevue (Neb.)

Bellevue (Neb.) is 36-3 and winners of 24 consecutive games, including a 25-run performance in a win over Dakota State (S.D.) earlier this week. That was the Bruins second 20-plus performance of the year, and it's no surprise that Bellevue is closing in on 400 runs as a team in 2026. The Bruins have 73 home runs as a team, fifth-best in the NAIA, and pitching has been nearly as strong with the 16th-best team ERA in the Association. Carter Claerhout has been the offensive catalyst for BU, driving in 53 runs with 17 homers, 14 doubles and a triple, while Brody Burnette has 13 saves in 17 appearances and Brayden Anderson is 8-0 in 10 starts. Kenji Miller leads the team in innings (61.1) and strikeouts (71). Bellevue continues its season at home this weekend against Dakota State.

4. Johnson (Tenn.)

Johnson (Tenn.) has been aggressive on the basepaths this season, swiping 128 bases, 14th-most in the NAIA, while compiling a strong 33-7 overall record. They enter the week riding a six-game win streak, having claimed eight of their last 10 contests, and will face a key Appalachian Athletic Conference series at home against Montreat (N.C.) on April 17-18. On the mound, Bodey Yates has been highly effective in a versatile role, posting a 4-0 record across 17 appearances with a 1.14 ERA, while Colby Reynolds leads the staff with 61 strikeouts and holds a perfect 9-0 mark in 11 starts.

5. Lewis-Clark State (Idaho)

The LC State Warriors continue to roll under Head Coach Jeremiah Robbins, who recently reached the 300-win milestone and now holds a 301-75 record at the helm of the program. The Warriors lead the nation with a 2.91 team ERA, backed by a pitching staff anchored by Landon Webb (2.18 ERA) and Jordan Lennartson (0.78 ERA with 4 saves). Offensively, the lineup has been just as effective, led by Jackson Jaha, who leads the nation with a .484 batting average, along with Brandon Nguyen (.387 AVG, 9 home runs, 36 RBIs).

6. Missouri Baptist

Missouri Baptist has been one of the most potent offensive teams in the NAIA, ranking fourth nationally with a .353 team batting average while also totaling 90 doubles (15th) and 58 home runs (12th). The Spartans carry a 32-5 overall record and sit atop the Heart of America Athletic Conference at 19-1 in their first season in the league. Offensively, Carlos Hidalgo, Nick Beech and Jayden Orozco have combined for 130 RBIs, while that trio, along with Sam Paule, has accounted for 164 runs scored. On the mound, Missouri Baptist pitchers have recorded 293 strikeouts, led by Tyler Timmerman, who has 38 and holds a 4-2 record in seven starts.

7. LSU Shreveport (La.)

LSU Shreveport (La.) enters a poll on a rare losing streak – just one game – but the Pilots are 34-10 and did claim a series last week with Texas A&M – Texarkana. The Pilots have four games to close out the regular-season, including this week’s series at Louisiana Christian and a non-conference mid-week game next week at Central Baptist (Ark.). LSUS can move around the bases when the ball’s in play, recording 36 triples, best in the NAIA, among 163 extra-base hits. They also get runs in from third base with less than two outs, leading the NAIA with 43 sacrifice flies. On the mound, Brock Lucas has been the Pilots’ ace, 8-1 in 12 starts with a 1.90 ERA and 80 strikeouts to just 12 walks on the year.

8. Texas A&M - Victoria

Texas A&M-Victoria has 128 extra-base hits, but only 23 are home runs. The Jaguars have the 12th-most doubles (93) and are in the top 30 for triples with 12. They’ve also gotten on base, posting the 13th-best on-base percentage, thanks, in part, to the 11th-most walks in the NAIA (247). It all adds up to 369 runs on the year, a top 30 total in the NAIA. Blane Zeplin and Jonathan Jones have been a 1-2 punch on the mound for the Jaguars, combining to strike out 164 batters on the year, 91 by Zeplin, which is tied for the top in the NAIA. Both boast nine wins, and the team is 32-11 on the year.

9. Cumberlands (Ky.)

Coming in at No. 9 in the poll, the Patriots continue to lead the NAIA in RBIs with 446, 27 more than the next closest team, while also ranking first nationally in team batting average. Johnboy Rittenhouse leads the offense with a .430 average, and Derick Andiarena ranks third in the nation with 67 RBIs. The Patriots have also been strong in Mid-South Conference play, posting an 11-1 record and riding a 13-game win streak, with their next matchup coming against MSC foe Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) on April 17-18.

10. Kansas Wesleyan

Kansas Wesleyan (37-6) has been one of the most explosive offenses in the NAIA, ranking fourth nationally with 452 runs scored while piling up 108 extra-base hits, including an NAIA-best 102 home runs and 103 doubles, fifth-most in the country. The Coyotes have taken full advantage of their home field at the Berkley Family Recreation Area, where 54 of those home runs have been hit. Chris Finocchario leads the charge with 19 home runs, including 13 at home, and he and Carter Allen have combined for 37 long balls this season, the most by any duo from the same team in the NAIA.
