Maritz and Casique Earn KCAC Tennis Weekly Honors

KANSAS — Evan Maritz of the University of Saint Mary and Daniela Casique of (RV) Bethel College have earned the KCAC Men's and Women's Tennis Player of the Week honors, respectively, the conference office announced Monday. The two student-athletes were selected for their performances from March 9-15 by a vote of conference sports information directors. All KCAC Player of the Week honors are presented by Athletic Solutions.

Maritz won five of six matches between singles and doubles this past week. He won three doubles, one at No. 3 doubles and two at No. 2 doubles, and then picked up two singles wins, one at No. 3 singles vs. Bethany and one at No. 2 singles vs. Friends. These victories were all key in the Spires starting their KCAC conference schedule with a 3-0 mark.

Casique delivered a strong week at the top of the Threshers lineup, competing at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles. She earned a key win against NAIA No. 19 William Woods, defeating Kristina Dimitrijevic 7-6, 6-2 at No. 1 singles to help lead Bethel to a 5-2 team victory. Casique also battled one of the nation’s top players against NAIA No. 21 Morningside, pushing ITA No. 3 Line Jensen to a tight unfinished match while leading 7-6, 5-4. This marks the second time this season Casique has been named the KCAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week.
