Wendte and McIver Earn KCAC Women's Basketball Weekly Honors

KANSAS — Abby Wendte of the University of Saint Mary and Lauryn McIver of (RV) Friends University have earned the KCAC Women's Basketball Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week honors, respectively, the conference office announced Tuesday. The two student-athletes were selected for their performances from Jan. 5-11 by a vote of conference sports information directors. All KCAC Player of the Week honors are presented by Athletic Solutions.
 


Offensive Player of the Week

Abby Wendte - University of Saint Mary

5-9 | Fr. | G | Lee's Summit, Mo.


Wendte averaged 17.0 points on the week with 76.5% shooting from the field (66.7% from three-point range) as the Spires picked up two victories, an 88-60 win over Oklahoma Wesleyan and an 85-75 victory over Bethel. On top of her scoring, she also averaged four assists and five rebounds per game on the week.

Defensive Player of the Week

Lauryn McIver - (RV) Friends University

5-9 | Grad. | G | Phoenix, Ariz.

In addition to her spectacular offensive output, McIver was a force on the perimeter defensively, averaging 8.5 defensive rebounds, 3.0 steals and 2.5 blocks in two victories that extended the (RV) Friends University Falcons winning streak to 11 games. McIver's week featured three steals in both games at Sterling College and Oklahoma Wesleyan University, along with a career-high five blocks at OKWU. McIver is averaging 5.5 defensive boards, 1.4 steals and 1.1 blocks on the season.
