Sterling College Welcomes Broehl as New Softball Head Coach

STERLING, Kan. — Sterling College Athletics and Athletic Director, Justin Morris, announced today that Kiera Broehl will be the next head softball coach at Sterling College.

"We're excited to welcome Coach Broehl to the Sterling family. Her passion for student-athlete development and vision for building a competitive program align perfectly with the mission and values of Sterling College. We look forward to the positive impact they'll have on our softball program and campus community," Morris said.

Broehl is no stranger to the KCAC, graduating from Bethel College in 2019 with a bachelor's degree in business administration and marketing. She also played softball for the Threshers carrying a .331 batting average with a slugging percentage of .417 and recording 32 hits and 21 RBIs in one season of play.

After college, she worked as a softball graduate assistant under Hosea Bell at Langston University where she also obtained her master's degree in entrepreneurial studies in 2021.

In 2022, Broehl earned her second master's degree in sports administration from Southeastern Oklahoma State University while working as an assistant softball coach at MidAmerica Nazarene University. While at MNU, she specialized in coaching pitchers and catchers and was made the Recruiting Coordinator in 2023.

Broehl got her first head coaching position at Big Bend Community College in 2024 where she turned a three-person roster into a 17-person roster within the span of five months. She then took a job at Independence Community College in the fall of 2024 as an assistant softball coach, stepping back into the role of battery coach to work with pitchers, catchers and outfielders.

"My previous experiences are what help me grow as a coach. I have assisted some great head coaches, and they have all helped me become better," Broehl said. "I am always learning from others, and now it is my turn to put those teachings into my own program."

Broehl is excited about Sterling's Christ-centered atmosphere and continued growth of the softball program.

"I was drawn to Sterling College because of the faith. Working at Christian universities makes me feel so close to God and surrounded by Him. It was a big value to me that I didn't realize until coaching at a non-Christian school," she said. "I am looking forward to continuing the growth that Sterling softball has already achieved while adding my own twists and experience. My style is to have fun and work hard while we do it."
