KANSAS — The Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) has secured the Robert W. Plaster Center on the campus of Pittsburg State University as the home for the conference's 2027 and 2028 Indoor Track and Field Championships, the conference announced Saturday. The conference returns to the Plaster Center for the first time since 2018.
"We are excited to partner with the KCAC to bring their indoor track & field championships back to Pittsburg State University for the 2027 & 2028 seasons," Damian Smithhisler, Senior Associate Athletic Director for Operations and Special Projects at Pittsburg State, remarked. "Every opportunity we get to host track & field in our state-of-the-art facility is one we cherish. In 11 seasons we have now surpassed 90 indoor, high school & collegiate meets, proving the vision of our university, city, and county leaders right. If you build it, they will come. Providing for our local and regional peer schools and conferences (MIAA, KJCCC, & the KCAC) and in turn, benefiting from the economic boost that their events bring to our area, is synergy at its best."
The $13 million, 154,000-square-foot facility was completed in Spring 2015. It includes a 100-yard turf field, an 11,000-square-foot modern strength facility, a 300-meter track and seating for up to 1,500.
"We are excited to partner with Pittsburg State and the city of Pittsburg," Brandon Buchanan, KCAC Commissioner, stated. "Bringing our KCAC Indoor Track and Field Championships to this state of the art facility for the next two years only brings our championship to higher levels. Our student-athletes, coaches, and programs only deserve the best in the KCAC and Pitt State provides the best. This will enhance our student-athletes experiences most importantly and continue to take our conference to higher levels."
