Overman, Manuel, and Scheffler Earn KCAC Football Weekly Honors

KANSAS — Walker Overman and Zamarion Manuel, both of No. 8 Friends University, and Jonathon Scheffler of Tabor College have earned this week's KCAC Football Offensive, Defensive, and Special Teams Player of the Week honors, respectively, the conference office announced Tuesday. The three student-athletes were selected for their performances from Sept. 28-Oct. 4 by a vote of conference sports information directors. All KCAC Player of the Week honors are presented by Athletic Solutions.
 
 

Offensive Player of the Week

Walker Overman - #8 Friends University

5-7 | 150 lbs. | So. | QB | Gunter, Texas

 

Overman put together a signature game when the No. 8-ranked Friends University Falcons needed it most in an 66-42 offensive shootout victory over the Ottawa University Braves. Overman accounted for five touchdowns, three through the air and two on the ground while producing career-high totals in both rushing (167 yards) and passing (163 yards). Overman now leads the NAIA's No. 1-ranked rushing unit with 410 yards and has thrown for 364 yards on the season.

Defensive Player of the Week

Zamarion Manuel - #8 Friends University

6-0 | 160 lbs. | Jr. | DB | Springdale, Ark.

 

With the game against the Ottawa University Braves locked in a back-and-forth offensive shootout and in the midst of a combined 10 straight scoring drives, Zamarion Manuel not only put a halt to it with an interception but returned it 50 yards to the end zone for a critical touchdown that made the score 59-42 and effectively put the game away in the fourth quarter. Manuel also contributed in other areas with six tackles and three pass breakups. Manuel now has 16 tackles on the season and is tied for the team lead in both interceptions (two) and pass breakups (four).

Special Teams Player of the Week

Jonathon Scheffler - Tabor College

5-11 | 180 lbs. | Fr. | K/P | Stigler, Okla.

 

Scheffler had an extraordinary day in the Bluejays' win at Saint Mary on Saturday, hitting two field goals, including a 54-yarder, which puts him tied for third all-time in KCAC history, and in second place in Tabor College history. He was also perfect in hitting all five PATs he attempted, and recorded 494 kickoff yards on eight attempts with four touchbacks and one kickoff going through the back of the end zone, averaging 61.8 yards per kickoff. The freshman currently owns the longest field goal in the KCAC and the NAIA this season as of Saturday, and ranks No. 1 in both the entire KCAC and the NAIA in made field goals, with nine on the season. This marks the second consecutive week in which Scheffler has been named the KCAC Football Special Teams Player of the Week, and the second time overall this season he has earned the honor.
