KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Cale Scott and Alex Neri of Ottawa (Kan.) have been tabbed PrestoSports NAIA Men’s Soccer Players of the Week, with Scott earning the offensive nod and Neri picking up the defensive recognition. The duo anchored the Braves in a 3-0 upset of No. 1 Oklahoma Wesleyan, handing the Eagles their first loss of the season, before adding a win over Tabor (Kan.), 5-1.
Scott opened the week with a goal and two assists against the Eagles, contributing to all three of the Braves’ goals in the victory. Ottawa followed with a 5-1 win at Tabor (Kan.) on Saturday, where he found the back of the net twice and added an assist.
The junior finished the week with three goals and three assists, scoring on three of seven shots while putting six shots on frame. He also converted both penalty-kick attempts.
Scott’s ten goals this season are three shy of his single-season career best, with more than half the schedule still to play.
Neri recorded four saves and a shutout against OKWU, becoming the first goalkeeper this season to hold the Eagles scoreless while controlling his defensive third. He added two saves against Tabor, allowing the opposition to score once, finishing the week with six saves, a .857 save percentage and a 0.55 goals-against average across 162:20 in goal.
The senior’s shutout against Oklahoma Wesleyan extended his scoreless streak to 366:16 before Tabor found the back of the net.
Ottawa sits atop the KCAC standings with a 4-0 mark, while holding a 7-1-1 overall record. The Braves return to the pitch on Wednesday against Avila (Mo.) at home.
