Luera and Ruvalcaba Earn KCAC Baseball Weekly Honors

KANSAS — Ashton Luera of No. 12 Oklahoma Wesleyan University and Fernando Ruvalcaba of (RV) Kansas Wesleyan University have earned the KCAC Baseball Pitcher and Player of the Week honors, respectively, the conference office announced Monday. The two student-athletes were selected for their performances from Feb. 2-8 by a vote of conference sports information directors. All KCAC Player of the Week honors are presented by Athletic Solutions.
 
 

Pitcher of the Week

Ashton Luera - #12 Oklahoma Wesleyan University

Sr. | RHP | Albuquerque, N.M.

Luera played a key role in the Eagles' victory over Southeastern (Fla.), the No. 3 team in the NAIA Baseball Preseason Coaches' Poll. Over five innings, he only allowed four hits and one run, while striking out seven batters. This is the second consecutive week in which Luera has been named the KCAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week.

Player of the Week

Fernando Ruvalcaba - (RV) Kansas Wesleyan University

Sr. | 1B | Atwater, Calif.

Ruvalcaba had a stellar start to the season for the Coyotes, hitting .538 in the first five games of the season. He also had a 1.385 slugging average and a .750 on base percentage. He had a hit in every game, which included three home runs, and drove in 11 runs, helping KWU go 4-1 to start the year. He also drew 10 walks as teams pitched around him many times, and showed patience at the plate. He only had one strikeout the entire week.
