LINDSBORG, Kan. — The Bethany College Athletics Department announced Thursday that it has discontinued the Men's Wrestling program, effective immediately.
This decision was not made lightly, but after careful consideration, it was determined that consistently low roster numbers over the years have made it unsustainable to continue the program at a competitive level.
"We recognize that this news may be disappointing to our athletes, alumni, coaches, and supporters of the wrestling program," said Bethany College Dean of Athletics Laura Moreno. "We are incredibly grateful for the dedication, hard work, and sportsmanship of every wrestler who has been part of the program. Your contributions have shaped the athletic legacy of Bethany College, and you have our deepest respect and gratitude. I especially want recognize Coach Mitchell Houghton for his work, dedication, and time to support student athletes."
As the landscape of college athletics continues to evolve, Bethany College remains committed to exploring opportunities to grow and enhance its athletic offerings. The college is open to the possibility of adding new sports or club programs in the future that meet the interests and needs of the Bethany's student-athletes and community.
