Walton and Aguirre Earn KCAC Baseball Weekly Honors

WICHITA, Kan. — Alex Walton of Avila University and Marcelo Aguirre of (RV) Tabor College have earned the KCAC Baseball Pitcher and Player of the Week honors, respectively, the conference office announced Wednesday. The two student-athletes were selected for their performances from February 26-March 3 by a vote of conference sports information directors. All KCAC Player of the Week honors are presented by Equity Bank.

Pitcher of the Week

Alex Walton - Avila University

6-0 | Sr. | LHP | Tulsa, Okla.

Walton put the final exclamation mark on an impressive weekend series for Avila Baseball by throwing a complete-game shutout in the 7-inning contest, wrapping up the series sweep over the Braves. Walton faced the minimum through four, allowing only four hits - all singles - and only worked through two serious Ottawa threats to score. When Walton first came to Avila he was a 2-inning max guy. Now, two calendar years later, the team has built him up into a legitimate starter that's capable of going 5-plus consistently, and that's what he did Saturday with a career-high seven shutout frames.

Player of the Week

Marcelo Aguirre - (RV) Tabor College

6-0 | Jr. | INF/RHP | Monterrey, Mexico

Aguirre put together an impressive week across the four games, batting 8-12 (.667), with three home runs, one double, one sacrifice fly, one sacrifice bunt, 10 RBIs, two walks, seven runs, and just one strikeout. He finished the week strong with two home runs on 4-6 from the plate with four RBIs and four runs to complete the 3-game sweep of the Panthers, the teams' second consecutive conference sweep. In the four games, he boasted a .667 batting average and on-base percentage, along with a 1.333 slugging percentage. Aguirre was sure-handed in the field as well, recording all but 1 out in 13 chances. He also pitched a scoreless inning against Mid-America Christian, posting a strikeout and earning the win.
