Friends Sweeps KCAC Football Weekly Honors

WICHITA, Kan. — K'Vonte Baker, Nolan Ewing, and Cole Thompson, all of Friends University, have earned this week's KCAC Football Offensive, Defensive, and Special Teams Player of the Week honors, respectively, the conference office announced Monday. The three student-athletes were selected for their performances from Oct. 9-15 by a vote of conference sports information directors. All KCAC Player of the Week honors are presented by Equity Bank.
 
 

Offensive Player of the Week

K'Vonte Baker - Friends University

5-11 | 195 lbs. | So. | QB | Wichita, Kan.

In the ultimate statement game for the Friends University Falcons, K'Vonte Baker had the best game of his career, rushing for 122 yards and throwing for a career-high 119 yards while accumulating four touchdowns in a 35-20 victory over No. 6-ranked and previously undefeated Southwestern College. Baker spread out his scoring impact evenly, rushing and passing for two scores each. The Wichita product continues to pace the entire nation in rushing touchdowns (16) and is second in the KCAC in rushing yards per game (113.0). This marks the second time this season Baker has been named the KCAC Football Offensive Player of the Week.

Defensive Player of the Week

Nolan Ewing - Friends University

6-0 | 195 lbs. | Sr. | DB | Spring Hill, Kan.

Ewing made an impact across multiple phases in holding the No. 6-ranked Southwestern College Moundbuilders 13.5 points below their scoring average coming in and limiting quarterback Braden Howell to over 57 yards less than what he averaged prior to the game. Ewing led the defense with seven tackles and pulled in one interception early in the second quarter with Friends up 10-0 to keep the momentum squarely in the Falcons' favor. Ewing is tops on the Falcons with 6.1 tackles per game and his two interceptions are tied for first on the team.

Special Teams Player of the Week

Cole Thompson - Friends University

5-11 | 155 lbs. | Fr. | K/P | Round Rock, Texas

Thompson was rock solid in helping the Friends University Falcons knock off the No. 6-ranked Southwestern College Moundbuilders, hitting 5-of-6 of his kicks, including both field goal attempts that included a career-high 49-yarder. Thompson also punted twice, with one landing inside the 20, along with a 47-yard kickoff.
