Deal, Mahdi, and Woods Earn KCAC Football Weekly Honors

KANSAS — Caleb Deal of (RV) Kansas Wesleyan University, Ibrahimi Mahdi of Ottawa University, and AJ Woods, also of Kansas Wesleyan, have earned this week's KCAC Football Offensive, Defensive, and Special Teams Player of the Week honors, respectively, the conference office announced Monday. The three student-athletes were selected for their performances from Aug. 31-Sept. 6 by a vote of conference sports information directors. All KCAC Player of the Week honors are presented by Athletic Solutions.
 
 

Offensive Player of the Week

Caleb Deal - (RV) Kansas Wesleyan University

6-1 | 195 lbs. | Jr. | QB | Frisco, Texas

Deal accounted for four of KWU's touchdowns in the rout of Bethany on Saturday. He was 3 of 6 passing for 109 yards and two touchdowns and also rushed eight times for 117 yards and two more touchdowns. He was wildly effective in the game with a 312.6 efficiency rating and drew the attention of the defense on every touch. He helped KWU win a 12th-straight meeting in the all-time series, score the most points by one team in the series, and secure the largest margin of victory in a meeting between the teams in the 116 all-time meetings.

Defensive Player of the Week

Ibrahimi Mahdi - Ottawa University

6-0 | 220 lbs. | Jr. | LB | Plano, Texas

Mahdi finished the game last Saturday against Saint Mary with 11 tackles (seven solo and four assisted). He had 1.5 tackles for loss in OU's 42-15 victory over the Spires.

Special Teams Player of the Week

AJ Woods - (RV) Kansas Wesleyan University

5-9 | 185 lbs. | Fr. | K | Springdale, Ark.

Woods was phenomenal for the Coyotes as KWU routed the Bethany Swedes 76-6. He was a perfect 4-for-4 on field goals and 8-for-8 on PATs, scoring 20 points in the game. He hit field goals of 42, 25, 30 and 18 yards. He also handles kickoffs for the Coyotes, and averaged 63.1 yards per kickoff and had four touchbacks.
