KANSAS - The Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) is proud to bring you the "KCAC Alumni Spotlight" series. Every two weeks, the conference will aim to highlight an alumnus of one of our KCAC full member institutions. We hope in this series to highlight successes that KCAC alumni had not only on the field, court, etc., but also in the classroom and now in their chosen professional field.
KCAC ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT — OKLAHOMA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY
Alumnus: Tahlor Stefek
Degree Earned at Oklahoma Wesleyan: Bachelor of Arts in Political Science (2020), Masters of Business Administration with a Focus in Marketing (2022)
Career Alumnus Currently Holds: Sports Information Director (SID), Oklahoma Wesleyan University
How did your time at Oklahoma Wesleyan help to prepare you for life after college/entering the workforce?
STEFEK: "In my time as a student at Oklahoma Wesleyan University, I was equipped with the proper skills, training, and Christ-like mindset in order to be successful in the workforce."
Were there any pre-professional experiences (internships/job shadows/etc.) during your college years that prepared you for entering your chosen field?
STEFEK: "Yes, I was given the opportunity to work throughout the Athletic Department under the Athletic Director, Kirk Kelley, & the previous SID in order to learn the trade and flow of a successful athletic department. During my experience as a work-study and graduate assistant for the athletic department, I began to shift my career focus and ultimately decided an athletic department was where I needed to be."
What lessons did you learn competing in collegiate athletics that helped prepare you for life after your playing days were over?
STEFEK: "Competing in collegiate athletics helped me build a tougher mentality, learn the importance of relationships, gave myself the desire to succeed in all things, and most important helped change my mindset about my identify being in Christ and not softball. Playing collegiate softball was the most fun, hardest battles, and most grateful time I ever had."
