STERLING, Kan. — Sterling College is proud to announce a strategic leadership transition within its executive team. Scott Downing, class of 1979, has been appointed to a new role as Vice President for Strategy and Engagement.
Downing, who has served as Vice President for Athletics since 2019, will now shift his focus to leading the college's next strategic planning process and providing senior leadership for major fundraising and donor engagement. In conjunction with this move, Justin Morris, class of 2000 has been promoted from Associate Vice President to Vice President for Athletics.
"I appreciate Mr. Downing and Mr. Morris along with their willingness to step into these vitally important roles," Sterling College President, Dr. Scott Rich, said. "I am confident that Sterling College will benefit greatly from their experience and dedicated efforts."
In his new role, Downing will dedicate his time to building relationships with donors and advancing strategic initiatives and planning that support Sterling's mission and long-term vision.
"I look forward to continuing to serve Sterling College in this position, and I appreciate the opportunity to work with Dr. Rich and our staff to advance the mission of SC," Downing said.
Assuming the role of Vice President for Athletics, Justin Morris brings a decade of experience in athletic administration and student development. As Associate Vice President and Athletic Director, Morris played a critical role in enhancing athletic operations, expanding student-athlete support services and fostering a culture of excellence within the department.
"I am very honored to serve my alma mater in this role. We have made significant strides in the athletic department over the past six years. I look forward to building new relationships with our alumni and supporters while continuing our work in providing our student-athlete and coaches the opportunity to be successful in athletics, in the classroom, while growing in their faith," Morris said.
This leadership realignment supports Sterling College's ongoing commitment to academic excellence, athletics, and institutional engagement. Both Downing and Morris will continue to work closely with campus leadership to further the Sterling's mission of developing creative and thoughtful leaders who understand a maturing Christian faith.
