KANSAS — The York women's basketball team has been named the 2024-25 KCAC Women's Team of Character, the conference office announced Friday. All KCAC Champions of Character Awards are presented by IMA Financial Group.
"This team was special," Corinna Minjarez, head coach of the York women's basketball program, stated. "To us, character is instilled in the program's values, beliefs, attitudes, and work ethic, on and off the court. I am proud to show up to events at our university, within our community, and on the road competing because I know we are going to do the right things, act the right way, and play the right way."
The Panthers participated in a variety of service projects throughout the 2024-25 academic year, including, but not lmited to:
- Being involved in a variety of mental health initiatives.
- Visiting first and second grade classrooms at a local elementary school weekly.
- Volunteering at a York County Christmas event.
- Participating in fundraisers for clubs on campus.
The team was named the Team of Character for their sport in March. On the court, the Panthers finished 11th in the 2024-25 KCAC Women's Basketball conference standings.
“I am extremely proud to see our women’s basketball team recognized as the Women's Conference Team of Character," Brian Walth, Director of Athletics at York University, remarked. "They are very deserving of this award because of the sportsmanship, integrity and respect they demonstrated this year. They reflect the values of York University and our conference.”
