LEAVENWORTH, Kan.— The University of Saint Mary is thrilled to have officially announced Taylor Calvert as the new head football coach. Calvert, a notable alumnus of USM football, takes over the head coaching role with a wealth of experience and a deep personal connection to the university.
Coach Calvert has been an integral part of the Spires' coaching staff for the last nine seasons ('07-'11 and '21-current), dedicating the last five of those seasons to the role of offensive coordinator. His tenure at USM is highlighted by his profound pride in the university. Vice President of Athletics,
Rob Miller, expressed his enthusiasm for Taylor taking the reins, emphasizing the value of his deep understanding of the university's culture, traditions, and expectations. "There's nothing more exciting than being led by someone who's worn a Spire uniform, understands what being a Spire represents, and has a shared pride in what USM football can become." Calvert's comprehensive familiarity with the University of Saint Mary positions him uniquely to steer the Spires to future successes.
The new head coach outlined his vision for the Spires football program, focusing on character, education, and leadership as the cornerstones of his coaching philosophy. He is eager to nurture a values-driven, supportive, and inclusive environment that extends beyond the field and will positively influence his players positively in all aspects of their lives. Calvert expressed what the atmosphere will soon look like, stating, "my goal is to bring back that proud tradition of brotherhood, to build a culture and family where student athletes experience the same sense of belonging and support that shaped my life. I am deeply committed to creating an environment where student-athletes are welcomed not just into the program, but into my home, my family, and my life."
Taylor Calvert serves the USM community alongside his wife, Britney Calvert (USM '08), whom he met and started dating at Saint Mary and has now been married for 14 years, and two sons Crue and Camden who will turn 13 and 10 this year, respectively.
