Toelle Named 2022-23 KCAC Sports Information Director of the Year

WICHITA, Kan. — David Toelle of Kansas Wesleyan University has been named Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Sports Information Director (SID) of the Year, an honor voted on by his peers, the conference office announced Monday. This marks the third time Toelle has earned the award since the 2008-09 academic year.

“I am truly honored and humbled to be chosen by my peers for SID of the Year," Toelle remarked. "The opportunity to earn this honor is a testament to the good people around me. There's no way all this could have been accomplished without their help. It's as much their award as mine."

Toelle serves as the liason between the Coyotes' atheltic department and the media, providing up-to-date information in a clear and concise manner to local, regional, and national media. He also acts as in a substantial marketing role for the athletic department, as he maintains all of the KWU Athletics social media pages, writes the majority of the articles on the KWU Athletics website, and is currently spearheading a website redesign with a new website provider, SIDEARM Sports. He also recently has been tasked with gameday operations, so his impact is felt on all parts of gamedays at Kansas Wesleyan.

"David Toelle truly embodies what it means to be a servant leader, which is evident in all the events he involves himself in every year," Miguel Paredes, athletic director at Kansas Wesleyan, stated. "Just this year, he’s given his time and expertise to several KCAC events and other events in the Salina community. That’s just the start of what makes him great at what he does. He pays great attention to detail, always wants to make sure things are done the right way, and that everyone gets the best experience possible. I am glad to have him as a part of our team here at KWU.”

In addition to his responsibilities at Kansas Wesleyan, Toelle serves the KCAC as a whole in a variety of ways. He currenlty serves as the chair of the conference's Sports Information Directors group. The Coyote Sports Network streaming crew, which Toelle leads and staffs, served as the official streaming provider at several KCAC Championship events (Volleyball, Championship Monday for Men's and Women's Basketball, Flag Football, and Baseball/Softball). That group also served as the official streaming provider at Hartman Arena for one of the NAIA Men's and Women's Basketball First and Second round sites that the KCAC hosted.

"David is one of the best sports information directors in the conference, if not the entire NAIA, and most certainly deserves this award," Mark Hoffhines, Assistant Commissioner for Sports Information and Communications for the KCAC, said. "He combines years of experience as the longest-tenured SID in the conference with a desire to be at the forefront of new technology in fields such as statistics, streaming, and social media. SIDs around the conference and our staff at the conference office rely on him for advice and expertise, and he helps us all to create a better sports information product."
