Saint Mary to Add Men's and Women's Bowling in 2021-22 Season

LEAVENWORTH, Kan. - The University of Saint Mary will add men's and women's bowling as varsity athletic programs during the 2021-22 academic year, the university announced Feb. 23.

The team is scheduled to begin competition during the winter 2021-22 season, and a national search for the first head coach is underway. With the addition of the two teams, USM now offers 24 varsity sports.

"We look forward to adding these new programs to the USM Athletic Department," VP of Athletics Rob Miller said. "Increasing opportunities for students to participate in collegiate athletics has been essential to USM's growth, and our programs keep the campus community active and vibrant."

The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics has 46 men's bowling teams and 46 women's teams, including fellow Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference members Kansas Wesleyan University and Ottawa University.

Bowling is a growing sport nationally with around 54,000 high school bowlers, including programs in about 90 Kansas high schools.
